When Valentine's Day comes around you always see the same uniform: a short, sexy little dress. It's usually pink or red and made out of lace, or has hearts all over it. They're the kind of dresses you usually only wear once because they're so Valentine-y. For this Valentine's Day, I wanted to come up with an outfit that still carries the theme but with a fashion-forward twist. Instead of a sexy, flippy little dress I chose this vintage 80s gem. Shoulder pads and all, I love this beautifully draped midi length option. And to bring it to the modern day, I styled it with punchy blue mules and modern, minimalistic accessories. Obviously this dress is one of a kind, but I found a great option from ASOS that is just as stunning. Get similar earrings here and a similar bag here.

So I really love this dress, so much so that I decided to come up with two different ways to style it. I wanted to do a "day look" and a "night look" to show it's versatility. For the day look I went with a French countryside vibe. I chose a neutral palette of black and tan so the amazing silhouette of the dress shone through. The beret and glasses are trendy with a vintage touch; they were the first items I chose. I wanted to wear boots to show that this dress could be casual enough to wear out shopping, to a lunch date, etc. To keep with the theme, I grabbed this straw circle bag because it's so French! Urban Outfitters has a great one. I added one more small vintage touch with this coin necklace from H&M and voilà ! (See what I did there?)
Sadly, this dress is sold out (it wasn't when I shot this!) but you can find a very similar one here.

For my night look, I kept with the French theme by sticking with chic, effortless minimalism. Just throw on some satin pumps and swap the big straw bag for a tiny bucket bag. And don't forget the red lip! I use this great one from Glossier. These satin shoes are long gone, but I found a great alternative for that pop of color. I also put on a dainty vintage bracelet to add some more sparkle. Which outfit do you like better?

I really love this outfit. The top was my statement piece. When I saw the abstract face graphic I had to have it, and I absolutely love the off the shoulder silhouette! Sadly this top is sold out, but I found a similar one at H&M. My pants are vintage Wranglers I got on Depop. That app has so many amazing vintage finds, it's one of my favorite places to shop. I wanted to add some interest to the neckline so I put on this dainty locket with a little rose on it. It's one of my go-to necklaces. These shoes go with the black and white pop art theme I was kind of going for. The best thing about them is they are fold down mules, so I can wear them with the backs up or down! The shoes are also sold out, but ASOS has ones almost identical. Finally, to add a little pop of color, I grabbed this blue market bag and threw some oranges in there for contrast. The bag is handmade from Etsy, but you can find a similar one here in several stunning colors.
